Structural Basics: Forces and Stresses


As we mentioned before, civil engineering is divided into five main branches. Now we will start to introduce the structural branch, and show the basics of probably the most two fundamental concepts in civil engineering, which are used in all branches of civil engineering as well, and not only structural.  These are forces and stresses, which by the way are studied in two separate most fundamental courses in civil engineering, as:

We will cover both of these subjects right below.

If you are not an engineer, this subsection is written especially for you to help understand the most basics first. Try to read this section more carefully, as the terms and concepts from here will be talked about later all the time. For an engineer, this particular subsection will be elementary.
